Cabin Fever!

Look! This could be your EYE-DOCTOR!

Our family had the opportunity to go to the Baucom's cabin and just R-E-L-A-X! I just love going there because it gives me a chance to really focus on my family and enjoy the beautiful mountainous terrain. We went horseback riding, hiking and I even attempted a run. However, the run was cut short because it was so tough to run up there! I think the high elevation really makes it harder to breathe.

Aubree was in heaven because there were wild flowers everywhere! She collected flowers all week and would put them in bouquets. She then was trying to sell the bouquets, which was pretty funny. Kylee and Aubree actually went the the cabin earlier than us because my brother Ron and his family took them up with them. They had to leave before us so that was a bummer. However, we arrived on a Thursday and got to stay until Sunday. The kids really loved it and got along great. Aubree got to ride a horse by herself for the first time although the majority of the time we would have someone with her or leading her horse. Kylee has loved riding horses for quite awhile now and she was definitely in her element up there.

My mom was her awesome, gracious self. It was so great to spend time with her and John. The food was amazing (as usual) and she made like 4 kinds of ice cream! We also had John's kids and some of their friends too and it was nice to get to know them better.

We did have one little mishap on Sat. night. We had saved the corn cobs from dinner to feed the horses. We were getting kids ready with jackets and shoes. It was really dark and we were going to take the gator to drive over to the pasture to feed them. We were finally ready to go and we could not find Braden anywhere. It was hard to see and we started toward the tack shed (which is pretty far away). I suddenly heard a yelp and scream and realized it was Braden. I started running towards his cries. He had made it almost all the way to the horse corral which meant he had to cross 3 water stream areas and lots of field grasses higher than his head! He had fallen on the last stream and got kind of wet and he was cold. I could not believe he had walked that far on his own in the dark. He did have a flashlight but wow. That kid is brave and independent!

Anyway, we got him back to the gator and we were still going to go feed the horses. Heather was driving and then it was just me and the three kids. We got quite a ways out to pasture and then the gator got high centered in the road! We all got out and tried with all our strength to push it over but we literally couldn't move it an inch! We had to walk all the way back to the cabin and get John to come help us! Needless to say, the kids ended up staying at the cabin this time and we went back to get the gator back. Crazy!

On Friday we went on a longer horseback ride with just the women and kids. Then our "guides" showed us the way to an old bear cave! The hike was steep but Melissa and Heather and everyone helped out Aubree and Braden a ton. It was worth the effort because the bear cave was really cool!
