Icing on the cake!

So Gary totally surprised me this year for Christmas. He had made a few trips to Green River to build "Aubree a dresser." I had no reason to not believe him, so I told all my friends and family about this dresser. I was so excited to see it. He was hoping to have it built by Christmas. Anyway, it got closer and closer to Christmas and Gary told me that he wasn't going to have it ready. Christmas came and we opened presents. After, Gary told me to go look in the craft room. He hadn't built Aubree a dresser at all! He had built me this awesome craft table! It is perfect for beading my jewelry because it is big and has a bunch of compartments for my bead trays and shelves for baskets of stuff. As you can see, I haven't been able to do much beading yet as our kids have taken it over. However, once they go back to school, I hope to have it as a perfect beading area for my jewelry making. I can't believe all the lies he had to tell in order for this to be a surprise! I asked him all sorts of questions about the dresser and he would come up will all these fake answers. I am glad he did though. I totally love the table!
It is amazing how things fall into place and just work out sometimes. So I just told about the fake dresser story. Well, lo and behold, my grandma Urton called me to tell me about this bedroom set that she was wanting to keep in the family but that she had no room for anymore. We have been looking for a bedroom set for Aubree for quite some time. On the phone, I was sort of on the fence. The set originally belonged to my great grandmother but I had never seen it before. I didn't know what kind of condition it was in and if it would be the right style that Aubree would enjoy. I was so thankful to my grandma for thinking of us. But to be honest, I just didn't know if we would be interested. Aubree had looked at a lot of furniture and seemed to be picky. I have been to a lot of 2nd hand stores and antique stores. There is an awful lot of junk and overpriced furniture out there that to me, is just ugly. I didn't want to be uncaring to my grandma, but I wasn't sure that we would want to have the set if it was beaten up and trashed.

Imagine my surprise and joy when we got to finally look at the furniture my grandma told me about. It was in excellent condition, and I loved the design of it. It is also so awesome and sentimental since it has been in our family for like 70 years! Aubree loved it too, so we were sold! We loaded it up and hauled it back to Fruita! This was just icing on the cake to a great holiday visit to Utah! Thanks to my grandma and grandpa for giving us this awesome bedroom furniture!
This shows the dresser on the left and the vanity that came with the set. I love the 4-poster style bed as well. There is also another twin bed that we need to get a mattress for that we will use as a day bed in her room. yahoo!
